John and Linda Lambert are planning to have a child. Linda misses her period and sees their family physician, Dr. Black. A pregnancy test is positive so arrangements are made for the initial prenatal visit in the near future.
Linda returns to see Dr. Black for the initial prenatal visit. He does a complete physical exam and fills in the appropriate prenatal forms. Linda is sent for blood work and an ultrasound. The latter shows a twin pregnancy. Dr. Black calls Linda back in to let her know the results and that he would like to refer her to an obstetrician. Linda agrees to this but would also like to be followed through the pregnancy by a midwife.
Linda has a relatively uneventful pregnancy and is seen on regular intervals by the midwife. She also sees the obstetrician periodically.
At 38 weeks of pregnancy, Linda goes into labour and proceeds to the hospital. She goes on to have an uncomplicated vaginal delivery for twin boys.
