Description
Most records in the EHR involve some type of clinically relevant event recorded by a clinician or under the supervision of a clinician. These events may be further assembled into various views intended for particular purposes. Instances of Clinical Events can therefore be recorded more than once and or referenced across many event records.
An interaction that notifies the EHRi that a clinical event of note has taken place.
Synonyms: The types of interactions that are relevant include, but are not limited to: - Encounter synopsis, Notifications of Orders for Lab Tests, DI exams, Prescriptions; Notifications of results of Lab Tests, DI exams, or medication dispense events. Notification of referrals made and accepted, encounters scheduled, or unanticipated events such as adverse reactions.
EHRi Identifier: EHRi identifier may include the instance identifier of the notify interaction as well as the focal class identifiers of the relevant clinical event.
Key characteristics (attributes): Id, Interaction Artifact Id, Profile Ids, Template Ids, Effective Date/Time.
Rationale
The view is intended to support the understanding of the essential patterns of clinical events, rather than being fully normalized for any particular type of clinical event. This view is essentially an abstraction of the current Care Provision DMIM. HL7 V3 messages produce detailed specific models for each type of interaction, which may be further constrained through implementation profiles and templates. Specific projects will refine the general patterns and adopt, adapt or develop specific messages and localized constraints to suit the business needs of the project.
Implementation Considerations
Projects will define much more specific models that represent the specific information of interest. In particular, more relationships will exist to support representations of care plans and accompanying work lists, relationships to clinical guidelines and the particular participations of the detailed clinical activities.
Source Models
The HL7 RIM derived model for Patient Care from the most recent ballot was the primary source model.
