Description
This View is an abstraction of the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and is intended to support sharing of persistent documents as well as messages.
An interaction that communicates a clinical document.
Rationale
A clinical document is authored by a clinician for a particular purpose at a particular point in time. The document can be digitally signed to authenticate the attestation. Different levels of structured content supports a migration strategy that permits legacy system to participate in the EHRi even if they are not able to support documents with detailed coded entries.
Implementation Considerations
Implementation Guides for specific types of documents designed as Templates based on the HL7 CDA is likely to get clinicians engaged in defining useful documents to be shared for particular purposes. Current initiatives in Canada and around the world are already early adopters of the HL7 CDA even before the specification is declared an ANSI standard.
