EHR IP Summary

Description

This EHR Interoperability Profile describes the EHR Communication Steps (EHR_CS) for an EHR user / system to create a new patient within the EHRi System. This process includes collecting the following information to be recorded in the EHRi repositories and registries.

The point of service system used by the Health Care Provider (user)

EHRi System

The system that contains the jurisdictional EHR for this patient.

Preconditions

The user is already authenticated and authorized and logged into the EHRi system
The location id of the service delivery organization and the provider id who initiated this process have already been established.
The patient id has been resolved with the jurisdictional Client Registry and the core patient demographic data has been collected to be recorded in the EHR Shared Care Record domain repository
Care Provision Agreement information has been collected between the provider and the patient according to the service delivery organization’s policies
A patient’s consent (Information Sharing Agreement) directives to create this record in the EHR has been collected according to the jurisdiction privacy policies (if applicable)

Process Steps

The user has selected the desired patient and proceeds with the following steps.

		The EHRi System: Establishes the Patient does not exist in the EHR Shared Care Record domain repository Creates the Patient’s Demographic Data Creates a Care Provision Agreement Creates an Information Sharing Agreement Records links to the Provider and the Service Delivery Organization that requested the “Add New Patient” process on behalf of the patient.
	The POS System receives the response status of the Communication Step interaction from the EHRi System.	(response)
