EHR IP Summary

Description

This EHR Interoperability Profile describes the EHR Communication Steps (EHR_CS) for a EHR user / system to find a patient within a jurisdictional Client Registry. This process includes the following high-level interactions with the EHRi registries and repositories

Client Registry

search the client registry based on the input criteria
if a unique record is found – return the patient’s identifying information
if many records are found – return a list of candidate patients
if no records are found – return a message indicating no patients were found

Examples

The following is a list of example services that would use the generic “Search Patient” type of interoperability profile pattern to perform client id resolution.

EHR IP (type Search Patient)

Description

Get Client Identifier Resolution

Request the resolution of client identification from the EHR based on a set of search criteria. The response could include a list of candidate responses if it cannot be resolved to a single match. If it is conclusive then the response includes demographic data and a specific set of public identifiers for the specific client. The ECID (EHR Client ID) would not be provided back in the response as it is defined as a proprietary ID used only in the EHRi.

The system that contains the jurisdictional EHR for this patient.

Preconditions

The user is already authenticated and authorized and logged into the EHRi System
The service location id and the provider id that requested this process have been established in previous interactions

Process Steps

User has selected the desired patient in the POS application and proceeds with the following steps.

User requests to locate a patient’s information in the EHRi	POS System sends a request to the EHRi System specifying the provider identity, and the client identifying information to search for.	EHRCS10_Search_Patient (request)
		The EHRi System IIP List workflow manages the following high level interactions: search the client registry based on the input criteria if a unique record is found – return the patient’s identifying information if many records are found – return a list of candidate patients if no records are found – return a message indicating no patients were found
	POS System receives a response from the EHRi System with ·the status of the Communication Step interaction ·One of the following results: o A single patient with a unique id o a list of patient’s records o no data	EHRCS10_Search_Patient (response)
