Hannah Lambert, 16, is concerned she might have a sexually transmitted infection when her previous boyfriend tells her he was diagnosed with Chlamydia recently. She attends a walk-in clinic where a family doctor, Dr. Singh, takes a history and does a pelvic exam. He does a Pap test along with swabs for gonorrhea and Chlamydia. Hannah is very afraid her father (David Lambert) will find out because he is a physician, so asks that the records related to this problem are masked.
Dr. Singh receives the lab results four days later indicating the presence of cervical Chlamydia infection. The Pap test result is still pending. Hannah is called back in to the walk-in clinic and given the results. She is asked to notify her current partner and is given a prescription for antibiotics that she fills at the local pharmacy. She is asked to return in 6 weeks to repeat the swab to ensure full treatment of the infection.
Four weeks later Dr. Singh receives the Pap test result which reports some cervical dysplasia. He books an appointment for her to be seen at the colposcopy clinic and notifies Hannah by phone. She does not attend that consultation.
