A person of interest to the health system. Instances of persons may have more or less attributes recorded depending on the degree of interest to the EHR. Persons who are also in Patient, Provider Person, Contact Person, and persons in other roles would have the most extensive attributes recorded.

Jurisdictional Client Registry Primary Identifier is the strong identifier for EHRi Person in Patient Role, but the person may also be indexed using other identifiers for ease of retrieval and validation of identity.

The POS may not record a separate identifier for contact persons.

Business Process Implications

Depending on the interest in the person, the attributes recorded are more or less extensive and verified more or less frequently. Treating persons in all roles with the same level of attention would be a significant change and likely to be disruptive.

Implementation Implications

Physical data designs are likely to denormalize persons to their record attributes of persons only within the context of their roles. This is likely to be true especially for persons who are not indexed for retrieval outside of their roles.
