Rationale
Modified definition to stand alone and reference a person rather than a person or organization.
Business Process Implications
Getting agreement on what expected responsibilities the contactable person is authorized to perform is a pre-requisite to standardized interpretation across delivery organizations. Regardless of what type of contact is recorded, human interpretation of local business rules is required to have the contacted person do something or make some decision on behalf of the person who is the patient. The frequency of validation by the patient is also a business rule that needs to be agreed to before the content is reliable for significant decisions. As personal representatives and advanced directives become more important in clinical decision making, this entity will become more important and will require standardization on a Pan-Canadian basis.
Implementation Implications
The scope of context for the contact person is determined by the POS system reporting it. A patient person may choose different contact persons in different types of encounters.
